The Badilisha Trust consists of a school for orphans, a well-established permaculture demonstration garden, and an eco-village with accommodation for visitors. One really innovative idea is that, instead of having an orphanage, the children stay with local families. This is better for the kids and the hosting families are paid to look after them. Overall the costs are far less than those of an institution.
There is also a learning center, primarily focused on permaculture. Our twelve families have already made progress, which became apparent this year when severe droughts affected the whole area, yet Badilisha is thriving.
Set on Lake Victoria, this is a perfect place for an interesting and memorable visit. The people are warm and friendly, there are plenty of amazing places to see and visitors are helping the projects to grow.
